When BIG moved its NY studio’s 250 architects, engineers, and other creatives from financial district in Manhattan to Dumbo, Brooklyn, the main idea was to inhabit public areas – combining work and play in meeting areas and shared spaces to create a deconstructed workspace with a spirit of informality.

After extensive research, close to a hundred +Halle Scoop chairs in an array of rainbow colours were installed. Selected because of its comfort and contribution to the dynamic flow of the workspace, the Scoop chair provides a softer more playful element – with a purpose of being inviting and casual.

‘The challenge was to install furniture that made people feel at ease. We found that people work better when feeling relaxed, which is precisely why the informal atmosphere is very important to us. The Scoop chair was a great solution as it acts like a hug, with the chairs suspension system and tilt, you can lean on the chair and just enjoy being held,’ Francesca Portesine, Interior Director at BIG explains.

‘It is a happy, accessible, chair with material and detailing that look and feel comfortable and inviting. The roundness of the top, the detail of the tilt and the swivel, makes this chair really come together as a younger reinterpretation of the traditional meeting chair,’ Portesine concludes.
